Inktober 2019 – Day 11

I’m debating on whether I should wrap this up since the month is over. I don’t really see myself drawing in the near future without this kind of prompt thing though.

Day 11: Snow

Final thoughts: If anything, I’ve realized that my art is not as sh*tty as I originally thought because I received a lot of encouragement and positive feedback from friends and peers. I am happy that I was able to bring back a hobby that I once thought was dead. I still prefer cosplay and blogging over drawing but now I know that this is something I can do for better work-life balance. I only completed 11 days, which is not terrible.

Thank you for being with me through this journey!

The Void

I recently finished watching the anime, Zankyou no Terror, and I felt kind of empty, like I didn’t know what to do with myself afterwards. So I went to Google and found out it’s a thing called ‘post-series depression.’ To be honest, I don’t feel completely comfortable with the word ‘depression’ in there because I feel like it kind of minimizes depression.

I think that this void I’m feeling is a common feeling and I think it will go away with time. I guess when you find an anime or any series that meshes with your tastes perfectly, you are reluctant to start another show. You need time to process the show and this feeling. Zankyou no Terror is only 11 episodes and I did binge most of it so I was only able to experience it for such a short time. Perhaps it is a deep appreciation towards a series that ended too soon.

I’m not sure often this feeling is talked about within the anime blogging community, or how often people feel this. Have you experienced this or something similar? If you feel comfortable sharing, let me know in the comments!

Beautiful Icelandic song from Zankyou no Terror.

What’s up?

I recently came across a poem called ‘Alone’ by Edgar Allan Poe. My favourite part is the beginning:

From childhood’s hour I have not been
As others wereβ€”I have not seen
As others sawβ€”I could not bring
My passions from a common springβ€”
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrowβ€”I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same toneβ€”
And all I lov’dβ€”I lov’d aloneβ€”

I think it’s beautiful. There is some comfort in knowing that this is not a new feeling, since this poem is from the 1800s, lol. If you feel this way and other people feel this way, then are you still alone?

Anyways, has anyone tried green tea Coke? It’s a drink in Japan and I won’t be able to buy that here in Canada. I might try to make it myself by mixing green tea with Cola, but I don’t think I’ll be able to produce the same result, hahaha. I recently completed Zankyou no Terror (it’s now one of my favourite anime) and green tea was mixed with Cola.

Inktober 2019 – Days 9-10

Days 1-3 post HERE.

Days 4-5 post HERE.

Days 6-8 post HERE.

I kind of forgot that I was doing Inktober until a couple of my classmates reminded me.

Day 9: Swing

I combined two things I adore: anime and literature from the 1800s. The Pit and the Pendulum is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe, one of my favourite authors. I drew Emma from the anime, The Promised Neverland. The prompt is “swing’ so that’s why I drew a pendulum. ^_^

If you’ve watched or read The Promised Neverland, the reason for Emma being the one potentially killed should make even more sense because of the anime’s premise.

Before you say anything, no, this is not the first thing that came to my mind when I read the prompt. The playground swing was the first thing that came to my mind, but I have never liked doing what everyone else does (AKA, draw the playground swing).

Day 10: Pattern

I drew baby blue eyes flowers. I am not particularly proud of this one, but it’s better than nothing.

Get to Know Me: Favourite Anime

Genres are kind of an iffy thing, but I got most of these genres from MAL. These are the genres I watch more frequently.

Favourite Action

When it comes to action shows, I like shows with more graphic content.

  • Inuyashiki
  • Parasyte
  • One Piece
  • Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2
  • Mob Psycho 100 II
  • Tokyo Ghoul

Favourite Psychological

This is probably my favourite genre, but there aren’t too many good psychological anime.

  1. Kaiji
  2. One Outs

Favourite Mystery

  1. Death Note
  2. Erased
  3. Zankyou no Terror
  4. Hell Girl: Two Mirrors
  5. Heaven’s Memo Pad

Favourite Boys Love

  1. Sekaiichi Hatsukoi
  2. Given

Favourite Slice of Life

I’m not a big Slice of Life fan, but I love these ones.

  1. My Roommate is a Cat
  2. Violet Evergarden
  3. Natsume’s Book of Friends

Favourite Romance

I don’t watch a lot of romance anime. I’m more into action, psychological, and mystery shows.

  1. Recovery of an MMO Junkie
  2. After the Rain

Favourite Comedy

I don’t watch a lot of comedy but these shows made me laugh. They match my sense of humour perfectly.

  1. Middle Manager Tonegawa
  2. Saint Onii-san

Favourite Others

I think these shows are really unique.

  1. Made in Abyss
  2. Durarara!!
  3. Carole & Tuesday

Anime Cosplays: Tokyo Ghoul:re & Kuroko no Basuke

Anime Review: Carole & Tuesday

Premiered: Spring 2019

Episode count: 24

Synopsis: Tuesday ran away from home to pursue her dream in music. She meets Carole, who also has a passion for music. They become good friends and together, they make their mark into the music industry dominated by AI in this metropolis on Mars.

Thoughts: I really, really recommend Carole & Tuesday. I think it’s such a well made anime. What struck me the most about this anime was definitely the music. Well over twenty songs were released, which is a lot of content! I love all the songs so much and I think that some songs are so meaningful.

You really come to like the characters. I like that the show did not just focus on Carole and Tuesday. A lot of the other characters got the spotlight and we got to look into their struggles and life challenges. The art style took a while to get used to, but now it feels refreshing.

I’ve cried a couple of times while watching this anime. I think the build up to the last episode was excellent and it felt really emotional. It really tied everything together, and it made a huge impact to the series as a whole. The theme of music being universal and having the ability to influence the lives of people across the world was interesting to watch, especially during the period of political unrest in the show. I can’t stop raving about this anime. Give it a try.

Some of my favourite songs from the anime:

  • Round & Laundry
  • Someday I’ll Find My Way Home
  • Unbreakable
  • Move Mountains
  • Lost My Way
  • Light a Fire
  • The Loneliest Girl
  • Mother
