Anime Cosplays: Near & Karamatsu

Near from Death Note

Karmatsu from Osomatsu-san

I’ve cosplayed as Karamatsu before (including a genderbend version) but I had red roses at home so I had to cosplay as him again. I can see improvements in my cosplays when I look at my older male Karamatsu cosplay photos.

I tried the Strawberries & Crème frappuccino for the first time and I loved it because it wasn’t very sweet. I was told that it’s normally sweeter which is too bad because I don’t like sweet foods or drinks very much.

I’ve been going out a lot lately! I’ve been spending a lot of time with friends and I’ve been eating out a lot. I’ve also watched anime and Asian dramas – over 100 episodes since my summer break started a little over a month ago (I counted!).

I’ll be working part-time soon so I won’t have as much time to watch TV which is okay!

P.S. Their Aspirations is a song from the Durarara!! soundtrack. You should listen to it!!!

I graduated!

As some of you know, I studied at the University of British Columbia in British Columbia, Canada. I am from BC and I finished my Bachelor’s degree in four years. I majored in Psychology and I will be continuing my studies at UBC because I was accepted into the Social Work program.

I do feel proud of myself because I graduated at the age of 21 by taking a full course load. I started university right after high school and you need a high average to get in. The Social Work program was competitive as well and the interview was three hours! Anyways, that’s enough bragging. I have bragging rights on my own blog, right? Right??

I wore my Kiki’s Delivery Service dress from my cosplay.

I like how the horns come out of the graduation cap. Thanks friends for the anime figures!

Thanks R for the flowers, card and presents! The graduation mug is very practical.

Gumi Matryoshka Wig

I won a prize in WeekendOtaku‘s series of Your Lie in April posts. I got to choose my own prize and chose a wig for Gumi. The third photo is the true colour. Thanks WeekendOtaku!

You can read his blog posts on YLIA here. I definitely encourage you to read them because it’s clear that he gave each topic a lot of thought. A lot of anime bloggers can agree with me on this.

The wig is really good quality. I love it a lot.

I cosplayed as the vocaloid, Gumi. This look is from her song, Matryoshka. It is a collab song with Hatsune Miku. I’ll cosplay as Gumi again when someone can take photos for me. I also have her socks, shoes and skirt.

I’ll also be cosplaying as Gumi in a school uniform from another music video in the future!

Thoughts and food.

I’m starting to read Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare and the famous line, “Et tu, Brute?” has me shaken.

The theme of betrayal happens all the time in literature and in anime too. Take the song Vogel im Käfig from Attack on Titan, for example. When I listen to the song, I feel anger, betrayal, sadness, disbelief and acceptance. The song plays during my favourite scene in the anime, the betrayal.

Quotes pop up on the loading screen of a game I’m playing. This quote in particular was very interesting. It was cool seeing a quote from a novel I own.

“If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself.” – George Orwell, 1984

Don’t worry, my life is mundane. Every time I write about a serious topic like this, there are always a couple of people who ask me if I’m okay, or if there’s anything wrong. I do appreciate the concern, but you have to understand that I think a lot. I’m not blindly consuming content and not thinking about it afterwards! No, I think about the things I read and watch.

P.S. I’m learning how to skateboard. Balancing is not an issue but I need to practice turning.

My Top 5 Spring 2018 Anime Opening Songs

The anime club at my university did a poll thing where members rate each opening song from this season’s anime. The goal was to compile a list of the best to worst opening songs. It inspired me to write this post! Hm, according to the statistics I liked some of the lower ranked songs more than average and liked some of the higher ranked songs less than average. Lol.

When I rated the songs, I only rated them based on the actual song. I didn’t take the opening visuals or anime into consideration.

5. Black Clover – Opening 3

I admit that I was one of the people who didn’t like Asta’s Japanese voice but I feel kind of bad about it now. I don’t think we should let one person’s voice affect our view of a show that a team of people worked hard on too much.

Anyways, I like the song’s chorus. It’s really catchy.

4. Grancrest Senki – Opening 2 (watch on YouTube)

I love the first 30 seconds the most! The singer’s voice is so nice.

3. Steins;Gate 0

The singer has a powerful voice!

2. Kakuriyo No Yadomeshi (watch on YouTube)

I love the background music because of the instrument choice. It’s a very addicting song.

1. Tokyo Ghoul:Re

It’s not as good as Unravel but nothing can beat Unravel for me. Unravel is my number one opening song of all time. I’ve always liked Tokyo Ghoul music so this was not surprising for me. I just like this type of music. I really like the singer’s voice.

What are your best (or worst) opening songs from this season’s anime?

Juuzou Suzuya fan art

juuzousuzuya

Juuzou Suzuya is probably my favourite character in the anime, Tokyo Ghoul. The feathers are from my older drawing of Misa Amane from Death Note.

Fun fact: I thought about drawing hanging dead bodies but I thought that would be just a little too graphic… Fyi, ‘four’ in Chinese sounds like the word ‘death’ in Chinese. That’s why there are four feathers.

.

.

My reasons for drawing make more sense to me now. I started to draw this because I was in a bad mood and once I finished sketching Suzuya, I wasn’t angry anymore. It’s as if I poured my anger, negativity and frustrations into this very quick drawing. That’s why I felt like I didn’t need to colour or do anything fancy with this. Well, I’m off to enjoy the rest of my day. ^^

Manga I’ve Dropped

It seemed many people enjoyed my post on anime I’ve dropped so I decided to make a post on manga I’ve dropped!

1. Dragon Ball

81-1jqVHePL

I know that the show was a lot of peoples’ childhoods but I never got into it. The first few chapters of Dragon Ball did not interest me because there was urine, butts – just gross things. I like characters in bishonen style better. That’s just my personal preference.

2. Mikan no Tsuki

230px-CrescentMoon_vol1_Cover.jpg

The art style is not very good and the story was confusing. Overall, not a good impression.

3. Kirihito Sanka

Ode-to-Kirihito

This manga is by Osamu Tezuka, the godfather of manga. I understand that he is massively influential to anime but I am not his fan. I’ve read a bit of Lost World, Astro Boy, and Ribbon no Kishi. I’ve also watched Metropolis.

I am not his fan because 1) he grossly exaggerated features of POC. For example, I don’t like the way he drew Chinese characters or African characters. It’s stereotypical and racist. Kirihito Sanka (Ode to Kirihito) was done in 1971. While I can see that it was made many, many years ago, I still don’t like it. I know that some American cartoonists did the same thing too and I don’t like that either.

2) There was rape in Kirihito Sanka, more than once. 3) Reading Kirihito Sanka made me groan at so many moments. The characters are ridiculous and I don’t agree with many of their actions.

4. Masamune-kun no Revenge

dZ.kX1CIjXI

Masamune kept talking about taking revenge on Aki but he ran so many errands for her, like getting bread for her.

???

Okay… I thought this was about revenge, not about becoming her servant. Masamune needs to grow a backbone and I don’t see anything there is to like about Aki. I don’t care if she’s cute! I don’t like anyone in the series.

5. Chobits

230px-Chobites_volume_1_cover.jpg

I’m not big on robot manga or anime. Chi is adorable but that’s basically all there is to her. Picking her up from the trash reminds me of picking up a stray cat from the streets. Yet, she is seen as a love interest and it just doesn’t sit well with me.
