My Favourite Openings

忘言歌 Song of Words Unsaid by 赵磊 Zhao Lei (Chuan Shu Zijiu Zhinan / The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System)

This is a Chinese song. I’m a huge fan of the series (novel and donghua). I also really like the singer.

No Separation by Jeff Chang (Heaven Official’s Blessing)

This is the series I am currently obsessed with! It’s a Chinese series by the same creator of Scumbag System (above) and Mo Dao Zu Shi. I think this opening has the best art.

Chiisana Hibi by flumpool (Kakushigoto)

I am a huge fan of flumpool.

Great Pretender OP by Yutaka Yamada (Great Pretender)

I’ve blogged about one of my favourite composers, Yutaka Yamada. He also composed the music for Tokyo Ghoul, which speaks to how versatile his music is. Great Pretender is amazing anime.

Dying Wish by 畠中 祐 (Moriarty the Patriot)

This song grew on me. I didn’t have a strong opinion of it at first but now I love it. Moriarty the Patriot was an amazing anime.

籠の中に鳥 Kago no Naka ni Tori by ユアネス yourness (Sing “Yesterday” for Me)

In a recent post, I shared that this is one of my favourite songs.

SLUMP by Stray Kids (Tower of God)

I prefer the Korean version, maybe because they are a Korean group. I think it’s great that the show used songs from a Kpop group. After all, it is an adaptation of a Korean webtoon.

Lost in Paradise feat. AKLO by ALI (Jujutsu Kaisen)

This song is amazing. It is catchy and chill. I really like the animation here too. I’m really enjoying Jujutsu Kaisen right now. It’s kind of like a mix of Demon Slayer and Parasyte.

Other Side by MIYAVI (ID:Invaded)

ID:Invaded was a good anime. The concept is similar to the game, AI: The Somnium Files.

My Top Anime Openings [Updated]

I wrote a post called, My Top 10 Anime Openings back in August 2017. My music tastes have changed! I’ve also watched more anime since then. These aren’t in any particular order, except for Unravel at the top of the list.

1. TK from Ling Tosite Sigure – Unravel (Tokyo Ghoul) 

This is not only my favourite anime opening, but it’s also my favourite song of all time. I love everything about Unravel. I love the lyrics, TK’s unique voice, and the instrumental music. I also love the visuals of the Tokyo Ghoul opening.

Who is that inside of me?

2. Ling Tosite Sigure – Abnormalize (Psychopass) 

I really love TK’s voice.

4. MAN WITH A MISSION – My Hero (Inuyashiki)

Inuyashiki is one of my favourite anime.

5. Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas – Let Me Hear (Parasyte) 

Anime openings are shortened versions of songs but the best part of Let Me Hear (1:45) is cut in the anime opening. =_= Here’s the music video.

6. Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas – Chase the Light! (Kaiji Season 2)

7. BiSH – PAiNT it BLACK (Black Clover Opening 2) 

I didn’t discover the idol group through anime openings. I think they’re really cool. I recommend their song, GiANT KiLLERS.

I’ll also be posting My Top Anime Ending Songs list! A lot of people ask me about the music I listen to. I would say that I like songs if the singer has a really nice voice, if there are drums, or if it has a unique sound.

My Top 5 Spring 2018 Anime Opening Songs

The anime club at my university did a poll thing where members rate each opening song from this season’s anime. The goal was to compile a list of the best to worst opening songs. It inspired me to write this post! Hm, according to the statistics I liked some of the lower ranked songs more than average and liked some of the higher ranked songs less than average. Lol.

When I rated the songs, I only rated them based on the actual song. I didn’t take the opening visuals or anime into consideration.

5. Black Clover – Opening 3

I admit that I was one of the people who didn’t like Asta’s Japanese voice but I feel kind of bad about it now. I don’t think we should let one person’s voice affect our view of a show that a team of people worked hard on too much.

Anyways, I like the song’s chorus. It’s really catchy.

4. Grancrest Senki – Opening 2 (watch on YouTube)

I love the first 30 seconds the most! The singer’s voice is so nice.

3. Steins;Gate 0

The singer has a powerful voice!

2. Kakuriyo No Yadomeshi (watch on YouTube)

I love the background music because of the instrument choice. It’s a very addicting song.

1. Tokyo Ghoul:Re

It’s not as good as Unravel but nothing can beat Unravel for me. Unravel is my number one opening song of all time. I’ve always liked Tokyo Ghoul music so this was not surprising for me. I just like this type of music. I really like the singer’s voice.

My Top 10 Anime Openings

These are my 10 favourite anime opening songs. I’m not saying that these are “the” best anime songs of all time, but my current personal favourites.

10. Fruits Basket Opening – For Fruits Basket by Ritsuko Okazaki

Every time I listen to this song, I get really nostalgic because I watched Fruits Basket when I was in primary school. The anime is very colourful and sweet. The manga is more complete and “darker” in my opinion. I recommend you finish the manga if you haven’t already.

9. Sailor Moon Opening (1-4) – Moonlight Densetsu by DALI

7. One Piece Opening 10 – We Are! by TVXQ

One Piece is my number one favourite anime. It is the best selling manga series in the world and currently has over 700 episodes. Although it is really long and still ongoing, I highly recommend this series for everyone. It’s great for people of all ages. I may be 20 years old, but I am just in love with this show. I learned a lot from One Piece, including the meaning of friendships. It helped me realize that I was in toxic friendships in the past and that things can always be better. The show made me feel every emotion possible, and it brought back my laughter.

5. Durarara!! Opening 1 – Uragiri No Yuuyake by Theatre Brook

I love just about every opening and ending song in Durarara. I enjoyed the first season more than the second. I thought the second season introduced too many characters too quickly.

4. Naruto Shippuden Opening 3 – Blue Bird by Ikimono-gakari

Naruto and Naruto Shippuden have several opening songs I like. For Shippuden, I turned to the manga because I hated the filler episodes (except the one-episode funny ones). I can’t get into Boruto, the new series about Naruto’s kids, because I don’t like the art style. I also feel that a lot of characters are out of character.

3. Death Note Opening 1 – The World by Nightmare

Death Note is one of my favourite anime and I fell in love with it the instant I laid my eyes on the series. I was around eleven years old and I remember my classmates telling me that it was too scary. Lol. There’s a Netflix film adaptation of Death Note. While I won’t judge the film too much without watching it first, Death Note remains a popular series after all these years.
