Winter 2021 Anime Impressions

I thought I would try out a new format with bullet points.

Attack on Titan: The Final Season

  • I think it’s great and don’t agree with the animation complaints on Twitter. It’s one thing to be unsatisfied with the show, and another thing to send hateful comments to the director and animators. I’m thankful that we have a final season.

The Promised Neverland Season 2

  • I am enjoying it, but I liked the setting in Season 1 more. There’s something terrifying about being trapped in a place while knowing that you are livestock.
  • I always feel that something bad will happen. Even when something good happens, I am unconvinced.
  • You can read my Season 1 Impressions post here.

Horimiya

  • I am enjoying it. I love Miyamura, both his looks and personality.
  • I like both of Miyamura’s looks.
  • Piercings are attractive.

Cells at Work BLACK

  • I watched the first episode, but I’ll probably binge it some time in the future.

Wonder Egg Priority

  • Amazing animation.
  • The first episode was strange, but I’ll probably continue it when more episodes are out.

Yes.

Dr. Stone: Stone Wars

  • Plan to watch.

Jujutsu Kaisen (Continuing)

  • I love so many characters, which is rare for me. I love Yuuji, Gojou, and Sukuna.
  • My favourite character is obviously the villain, Mahito.
  • I want to see Sukuna more.
  • It’s like a mix of Demon Slayer and Parasyte.

Mo Dao Zu Shi Q (Continuing)

  • Since the episodes are only five minutes long, I will binge the rest of the series when it is completed.
  • Speaking of which, I am so excited for MDZS Season 3. My favourite character, Xue Yang, will finally make his appearance.

Of the airing shows, my favourites are Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan: Final Season, and The Promised Neverland Season 2. Let me know if there’s a Winter 2021 anime you recommend~

My Top Anime of the Decade List

I’ll be sharing my favourite anime that were aired each year from the years 2010-2019. Since I watch completed anime as well, I’ll be going with the aired date and not the year I watched the anime. Fun fact: I’ve been watching anime for about 13 years.

2010 – Durarara!!

My favourite anime character of all time is from this anime (Izaya Orihara) and I think this anime is really unique. The music is beautifully done and you just fall in love with Ikebukuro. All of the opening and ending songs are amazing.

2011 – Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji: Hakairoku-hen (Kaiji Season 2)

Kaiji is my second favourite anime (my first favourite is One Piece). This season ended in such a fantastic way. The opening song is great. I felt really nervous during some moments of the anime but that’s part of the fun. I really wish for a season 3.

Runner-up: Sekaiichi Hatsukoi

Sekaiichi Hatsukoi was my first BL anime and continues to be one of my favourite BL anime. This is the anime that started my fujo journey lolol.

2012 – Saint☆Oniisan

This is only two episodes but I thought this anime was really funny. I recommend watching the movie as well. It’s about Jesus Christ and Gautama Buddha living together in an apartment in Tokyo.

2013 – Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan)

My favourite season of Attack on Titan is actually Season 3 Part 2 but Season 1 is great. It got me interested in watching all the episodes of Attack on Titan thus far and I will watch the next season when it is out.

2014 – Zankyou no Terror

I really love the music in this anime. This is one of my favourite anime.

Runner-up: Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu (Parasyte)

2015 – Tokyo Ghoul √A (Tokyo Ghoul Season 2)

I’m a big fan of Tokyo Ghoul because I love the themes of what it means to be a ghoul and what it means to be a human. I also love the music. Juuzou Suzuya is my favourite character – I liked this season because Juuzou and Shinohara had precious moments together.

2016 – Boku dake ga Inai Machi (Erased)

The ending was rushed so I did not like that, but everything else was done well. The Japanese live-action on Netflix is an amazing adaptation so I recommend the live-action as well. They did something different with the ending.

Runner-up: Mob Psycho 100

I did like the second season of Mob Psycho 100 more, but I really enjoyed watching this one.

2017 – Inuyashiki

The opening song by Man With a Mission got me into the band and then I attended their concert in 2019 – it was awesome. I really like the concept of two people having the same powers and abilities but using them for completely different reasons: one who cures people of diseases while the other goes on a murder spree.

Runner-ups: Made in Abyss

I couldn’t narrow it down to just one runner-up… I definitely recommend Made in Abyss. The animation, cute character design (but don’t be fooled, it is a twisted anime), and music – everything is great.

Net-juu no Susume (Recovery of an MMO Junkie)

This anime is adorable and it’s one of my favourite romance anime.

2018 – Koi wa Ameagari no You ni (After the Rain)

One of the most visually appealing anime I have seen. It makes me feel so calm because of the cool tones and beautiful backgrounds. I fell in love with hydrangeas after watching this anime. The music is beautiful and I like the themes of books and loss (Masami Kondou gave up on writing a book and enjoys reading books; Akira Tachibana got into an accident and lost the ability to run). I reviewed this anime.

Runner-up: Chuukan Kanriroku Tonegawa (Middle Manager Tonegawa)

This is a spin-off series of Kaiji and it’s hilarious. You see a different side of Tonegawa and Ootsuki.

2019 –

It is really difficult to decide my favourite anime of 2019. I liked Babylon, My Roommate is a Cat, Given, Demon Slayer, Mob Psycho 100, Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2, Shield Hero, The Promised Neverland, and more… How am I supposed to narrow it down to one anime!?

I’ll take out Babylon since it has not finished airing but… I still can’t decide!!!

Can all of them be my favourites of 2019..?

Spring 2019 Anime Closing Thoughts

Spring 2019 Anime Impressions post here.

.

.

1. Fruits Basket (2019)

Episodes watched: 7/?

The 2001 adaptation of Fruits Basket was one of my favourite anime in my childhood. I completed the manga several years ago, and I was so excited for this adaptation. I’ve put it on hold, but I know that I will continue it once the events go further into the deeper and “darker” sides of the story.

As a child, I looked up to Tohru. I wanted to be kind like her. Now that I am 22 years old, my opinion of Tohru has changed. This may sound harsh, but I don’t like how she pretends that everything is fine, when things are not. It feels dishonest and frankly, fake to me. I don’t like how Yuki, Kyo and her other friends constantly protect her. I think that while we can certainly count on our friends, we should be more independent. This is why I’ve put Fruits Basket on hold…

2. Kimetsu no Yaiba

Episodes watched: 12/26

I’ll be continuing this one in the Summer 2019 season. I still think that Tanjiro is an inspiring character (Read this post if you want more information). Nezuko is so adorable.

3. Carole and Tuesday

Episodes watched: 12/24

I’ll be continuing this show into the Summer season. The art took a while to get used to, but I fell in love with the music from the start. The song Carole and Tuesday picked in episode 12 moved me…

4. Shingeki no Kyojin Season 3 Part 2

Episodes watched: 10/10

Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2 was more focused on titan action, and it was pretty intense to watch. The end of it was on learning the history and there were some interesting reveals. I really enjoyed the intense moments of this season!

5.  Dororo (Continuing from last season)

Episodes watched: 13/24

I used to really enjoy Dororo, but now I’ve put it on hold. The beginning was interesting and then it became repetitive. The story-telling is good, so I will most likely go back to it one day. I hear the ending is amazing, so that’s motivating to hear.

6. The Rising of the Shield Hero (Continuing from last season)

Episodes watched: 25/25

I’ve blogged about Shield Hero and you can read my closing thoughts here.

Anime Wrap Up for 2018

Most of the anime I watched this year were not seasonal anime. Non-anime shows and movies, shows I dropped, put on hold, and shows I’m currently watching are excluded from this post. I’m also probably missing some titles.

Anime Series I’ve Completed in 2018

* Koi wa Ameagari no You ni (After the Rain) – I’ve reviewed this beautiful anime, which you can read about in this post.

* Violet Evergarden – I highly recommend this stunning anime because it will tug on your heartstrings.

* Shingeki no Kyojin Season 3 (Attack on Titan Season 3) – I was disappointed when they stopped airing season 3 halfway, when it was reportedly supposed to have over 20 episodes.

Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor – Kaiji is my third favourite anime, and the best psychological anime I’ve seen.

* Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji: Hakairoku-hen – This is the second season of Kaiji.

* Touhai Densetsu Akagi: Yami ni Maiorita Tensai – This is by the same creator of Kaiji, and the focus is on mahjong.

* One Outs – This is by the same creator of the manga, Liar Game. It’s a psychological baseball anime.

* Steins;Gate – This was difficult to get into, and my opinion of it did not change halfway through, contrary to what others were telling me.

* Tokyo Ghoul – The beginning was slow, but last episode was amazing. It has the best anime opening. I reviewed the last episode, which you can read here.

* Inuyashiki – This is one of my favourite anime. It’s not as heavy as Gantz, but there are mass murders.

* Kamisama no Memochou (Heaven’s Memo Pad) – The last episode left a lasting impression on me. I’ve reviewed this anime, which you can read here.

* Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori (Hell Girl Season 2) – This was a great anime, and the latter of the series was super interesting. I reviewed this series in this post.

* Jigoku Shoujo: Yoi no Togi (Hell Girl: The Fourth Twilight) – I wouldn’t recommend this one, unless you are an avid fan of Hell Girl. I reviewed this series in this post.

* Sakamoto Desu ga? – A good watch if you’re looking for comedy or slice of life.

* Boku dake ga Inai Machi (Erased) – I absolutely loved this anime, and it’s a series I can binge. The ending is too rushed, but the Netflix live-action adaptation does a better job with the ending,

* Chuukan Kanriroku Tonegawa – This is a spin-off featuring the antagonists from Kaiji, Tonegawa and Ootsuki. It is a comedy, and has made me laugh on several occasions. I looked forward it every week. You can read my Tonegawa post here and Ootsuki post here.

Boku no Hero Academia 3rd Season – I had to take a break from it because of the hype, but I’m really glad I returned to it. There were uninteresting parts, but it became really good afterwards. I’m looking forward to the fourth season.

Anime Movies I’ve Completed in 2018

* Ghost in the Shell – Unpopular opinion, but I don’t like Ghost in the Shell.

* Metropolis – Unpopular opinion, but I don’t like Osamu Tezuka’s works.

* Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (Spirited Away) – Not my favourite Studio Ghibli film…

* Kimi no Na wa. (Your Name) – This is probably my favourite anime film. The colours are beautiful and the music is memorable.

* A Silent Voice – I’m sorry, but I liked Kimi no Na wa. better.

* Steins;Gate Movie: Fuka Ryouiki no Déjà vu – This film made me like Steins;Gate. I was seriously so impressed by it.

* Boku no Hero Academia the Movie: Futari no Hero – I watched this one in the movie theatres, and it was really good. I liked the focus on All Might, but I wish that Froppy played a major role.

* Saint☆Oniisan (Movie) – I need more!

* Tenkuu no Shiro Laputa (Castle in the Sky) – The music is what got me interested in this film. It’s not my favourite Studio Ghibli film, but the ending is great.

Special Episodes I’ve Completed in 2018

maxresdefault

* Steins;Gate: Oukoubakko no Poriomania – This didn’t leave an impression on me.

* Steins;Gate: Kyoukaimenjou no Missing Link – Divide By Zero – Sets up the stage for Steins;Gate 0.

* Violet Evergarden: Kitto “Koi” wo Shiru Hi ga Kuru no Darou – I reviewed this beautiful special episode, which you can read here.

OVAs I’ve Completed in 2018

479998000_1280x720.jpg

* Saint☆Oniisan – Jesus and Buddha go on vacation in modern day Japan and they are roommates. This is comedy, and it made me laugh out loud.

I’ll probably complete Ore Monogatari!! since we have a little over a week left in 2018.

Thank you for reading my blog this year and in previous years, and I look forward to reviewing more anime in 2019!

Fall 2018 Anime – What I’ve Watched

The Fall anime season is here! The first episode for most shows are out, and I’m continuing a couple of shows from the last season. I’ll probably watch a few more shows from this season.

Attack on Titan Season 3 (continuing) – episode 11

attack-on-titan-season-3-characters-poster

Episode 11 came out yesterday and it’s a great episode. The focus was on the backstory of Keith Sadies. I was surprised that he had this connection with Eren and his parents. I felt pretty neutral about Sadies in the first season but I like him now. This episode was a nice break from titan action.

Middle Manager Tonegawa (continuing) – episode 13

Middle-Manager-Tonegawa-Opening-Ending-OST-Download

Things are getting really good because we are finally seeing some familiar players from Kaiji Season 1. Yes, it’s the Restricted Rock Paper Scissors game! They are keeping the comedic elements so it’s still fun to watch. I blogged about this show and you can read about it here.

Phoenix Wright Season 2 – episode 1

98c41e179d854c0baa7880de9c572719

This was an early drop, and I explained my reasons for dropping this anime in my latest blog post. You can read that here.

Goblin Slayer – episode 1

f4c8fdc17643c4293f7c449e0c459ac21535981821_full.jpg

The AniBlogger community kept talking about the show, so I had to watch it. It looks cute in the beginning, but it’s pretty dark. Fair warning: The show has heavy subject matter like rape and murder. I wouldn’t go as far as telling people who enjoyed it that they are terrible people.

The protagonist is so unlikable. After everything that happened to her group, she wants to go back to the goblin cave. Another thing she did irritated me greatly, but I don’t want to spoil too much. I might watch a couple more episodes of this, but I didn’t love it.

Dakaretai Otoko 1-i ni Odosarete Imasu. – episode 1

Dakaretai-Otoko-1-i-ni-Odosarete-Imasu-GQCA-1-1.jpg

This is a yaoi series and I’ve actually read the manga. It’s not my favourite yaoi manga, but I still like it. I’m actually liking the anime more than the manga so far. There aren’t too many BL anime to begin with (in comparison to other anime genres and the wide selection of BL manga) so it’s good to have more BL anime series.

Other Episodes

Violet Evergarden Special Episode

The Special was amazing! I reviewed this special episode and you can find that post here.

Plan to Watch

Ootsuki Spin-off

DoKgHzJX0AIivR0.jpg

Even though I hated Ootsuki, I am excited to watch this because I’m a huge FKMT fan and am willing to watch anything related to Kaiji. I’ll probably review this in the future. I think it’s great that series such as Middle Manager Tonegawa and Ootsuki Spin-off have anime adaptations because FKMT characters rock and also because the Kaiji manga was published in 1996. When will Madhouse give us Kaiji season 3?

The two shows the AniBlogger community are talking about the most right now, in my opinion, are Goblin Slayer and the new Sword Art Online anime. It’s not cool to hate on SAO just for views. The “SAO sucks” thing is getting really old! I’m personally not a fan of SAO, so I’m not going to watch it. It’s as simple as that.

Seasonal Anime Impressions – Summer 2018

Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan Season 3

attack-on-titan-season-3-characters-poster

I loved the first season, but thought the second season wasn’t as good because everything was condensed into 12 episodes. For the third season we will have 24 episodes, which sounds promising already. Attack on Titan lives up to the hype.

As of right now, three episodes have been released. The season started off with a strong beginning. It was different, but different in a good way. The first two episodes were filled with action, and the animation is amazing. Levi didn’t get a lot of scenes in the second season, but his fans will be very happy with this season. Yesterday’s episode (episode 3) didn’t have a lot of action, but it gave us important background information. It was still an enjoyable episode. Attack on Titan Season 3 is definitely my favourite anime from this summer season.

 Satsuriku no Tenshi/Angels of Death

12_AOD

I dropped this show after four episodes, but heard that the fifth episode was better. From what I heard, it’s still not a very good anime. If you want to read a more in-depth post on my reasons for dropping this anime, click here!

Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou no Holmes/Holmes of Kyoto

Kyoto-Teramachi-Sanjou-no-Holmes-01-02.jpg

I am enjoying this anime, and am caught up (five episodes have been released so far). I am aware that some anime bloggers think the show is boring. It’s not the most interesting show, and it does have its dull moments. However, I’m learning about Japanese artwork, artists, history, and festivals from watching the show. It is informative, and it’s a pleasant watch. If you’re into this sort of thing like me, then you might like it.

Hataraku Saibou/Cells at Work!

64a00586ly1frol1mym97j218g1pe7wm-1.jpg

This is one of the more popular shows from this season. Watching the show motivates me to take care of myself more because the cells are doing their best. I thought the first episode was extremely predictable, but I still enjoyed it.

It is educational too. The Infinite Zenith wrote a post on the anime’s accuracy after I asked him to take a look at it. Please check it out! It’s extremely detailed and it’s one of my favourite blog posts.

Banana Fish

I liked the first episode, but I will wait until all the episodes are out because I don’t want the hype to ruin for me. It happened with Yuri on Ice… The anime is based on an older manga from the 1980s. The clothing style, architecture, art style and general vibe were refreshing to see in a new anime.

Happy Sugar Life

ogp_180622.png

Misleading photo

I’ve only seen the first two episodes, but I’m enjoying it. The protagonist gives off Yuno Gasai vibes (from Mirai Nikki) but I love yandere characters. ^_^ Although the title sounds sweet, it’s twisted and all the characters are messed up. It’s ridiculous but entertaining. It does have disturbing scenes so if you are young, do not watch this!

Boku no Hero Academia/My Hero Academia 3rd Season (continuing)

My-Hero-Academia-Season-3-Episode-52.jpg

I stopped watching this because of the summer anime season, but I will continue it once all the episodes are out. I think I’ll enjoy it more once the excitement over it dies a little… It is a great shonen, and there are many likable characters.

Anime Fan Art: Levi Ackerman

Levi was so cool in yesterday’s episode. The animation was great. Who else is watching Attack on Titan Season 3?

levi.png

Thanks to those who encourage me to do more art. My passion for drawing died a long time ago, but encouragement makes me want to draw again.

Thoughts and food.

I’m starting to read Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare and the famous line, “Et tu, Brute?” has me shaken.

The theme of betrayal happens all the time in literature and in anime too. Take the song Vogel im Käfig from Attack on Titan, for example. When I listen to the song, I feel anger, betrayal, sadness, disbelief and acceptance. The song plays during my favourite scene in the anime, the betrayal.

Quotes pop up on the loading screen of a game I’m playing. This quote in particular was very interesting. It was cool seeing a quote from a novel I own.

“If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself.” – George Orwell, 1984

Don’t worry, my life is mundane. Every time I write about a serious topic like this, there are always a couple of people who ask me if I’m okay, or if there’s anything wrong. I do appreciate the concern, but you have to understand that I think a lot. I’m not blindly consuming content and not thinking about it afterwards! No, I think about the things I read and watch.

P.S. I’m learning how to skateboard. Balancing is not an issue but I need to practice turning.

Mikasa – Attack on Titan Cosplay

Happy Halloween!

I cosplayed as Mikasa from the anime, Attack on Titan, for Halloween. I’ve seen cosplayers in BC take photos in front of this building (Irving at UBC) so I wanted to do it too. Hahaha. I am actually a student at UBC so these were taken after class.
