When Choosing a Show to Watch

How much thought do y’all put into a choosing a show to watch?

Dangan-Roast Competition Idea! | Danganronpa Amino

I’m somewhat picky about the shows I watch. With so much anime out there, I want to make sure that I am enjoying my time. I do my research beforehand. I read the synopsis as well as a few reviews before I commit to anything.

There are some things that automatically make me uninterested while there are other things that pique my interest. For example, I like horror anime.

Some people get put off by certain art styles. Eh. I mean… my two favourite anime are One Piece and Kaiji. These are series that a lot of people say have “bad art.” I disagree but whatever.

When I start a show, the first episode is a dealbreaker for me. I know that a lot of anime viewers have a 3 episode rule but I’m not bothered to watch three episodes of something I don’t like. Then there are some people who never drop shows. These people never cease to amaze me. Sometimes I just stop watching within the first five minutes. Is that bad?

I’ve never thought much about the process of selecting a show so I’m interested in how you choose your shows!

p.s. I’m planning on watching Shinsekai yori. I think it’ll be good.

I have a few shows on my Plan to Watch list. Maybe I’ll write a post about it.

That Anime That Will Always Have a Special Place in Your Heart

Well, there are a few anime that are special to me. One of them is Death Note. Another one is Vampire Knight. I got into Vampire Knight in 2009, when I was 12 years old. It was also the first manga I bought. I’ve watched the anime and read all of the manga.

I will never watch or read Vampire Knight again. I rarely rewatch anything to begin with (Click here for more context) but I just don’t think I will enjoy rewatching/rereading it. It’s also because I hate Yuki Cross, the female lead.

Even so, this series has a special place for me. Because I didn’t like Yuki, I’ve read a ton of fanfiction where Yuki was a minor character.

I still love the art style of the manga. Toga Yagari and the entire Night class are so attractive, especially Kaname Kuran. The opening and ending songs are still amazing and the soundtrack is really good.

When You’re Close To Finishing A Show… But Don’t

I never had this “problem” before, until recently. I’ve finished some shows, but other shows… I am close to finishing them (just 2 or 3 episodes until completion) but I’ve stopped watching them. I like the shows, too. See below:

  • Gosick 22/24
  • 2Moons 9/12
  • Eternal Love of Dream 53/56
  • TharnType 9/12

& I’m trying to figure out the reason(s) for why I do this. Do you guys do this too? I have a few ideas:

1. You don’t want the series to end. You aren’t ready to let go of the characters and the series. If it never ends, you can avoid feeling the post-series “void.”

2. You are afraid of a bad ending, or a rushed job.

3. The show already gave you everything you wanted… whatever that was.

4. You lost interest in the show.

I’m sure there are more reasons. If you can think of more reasons, please let me know. I feel like none of these are exactly it for me.
