My friend, Carmen, went to Anime Revolution on Sunday, August 5 and gave me a signed poster of the Chinese cosplayers, Baozi and Hana. Thank you Carmen for lining up and for asking them to write my name. Baozi and Hana are two of my favourite cosplayers.
I went to Anime Revolution, the biggest anime convention in Vancouver, BC on Saturday, August 4. It’s a 3-day event. These are just the events and panels I went to, and I scheduled my day around these panels beforehand.
The event I was looking forward to the most was getting an autograph from Kappei Yamaguchi, my favourite voice actor. He’s the Japanese voice actor of Usopp from One Piece, Inuyasha from InuYasha, Shinichi Kudo from Detective Conan, L from Death Note, Ranma from Ranma 1/2 and lots of other anime. If you’ve seen these anime, you’ll know that Usopp sounds very different from L.
I waited two hours in total for his autograph but it was worth it. Not everyone got it because he signed for one hour. He signed my One Piece fan, which was a gift from my friend. Kappei-san and I shook hands afterwards. My dream came true.
I also went to a seiyuu (voice actor) event. Kappei-san and other seiyuu (listed below) were guests. There was also a sound director. It was a live recording for Kyoukai no Rinne. I waited around an hour and a half, but got a good seat.
- Kappei Yamaguchi
- Marina Inoue, most known for Armin from Attack on Titan and Momo Yaoyorozu from My Hero Academia
- Satsuki Yukino, most known for Kagome from InuYasha
- Hitomi Nabatame, who has voiced too many characters to count!
- Takeshi Takadera, sound director for Watashi ga Motete Dousunda, Yowamushi Pedal, Yuru Camp△ and other anime
It was an extremely informative event! I learned that about 20 seiyuu share 3 or 4 microphones, and they shuffle around to speak. Yes, 20 seiyuu gather around all at once.
First the seiyuu do their interpretation of the character’s voice with the video playing. It’s like a draft. Then the sound director gives feedback and the seiyuu do a final version. Sound effects, music and other effects are added in later on to complete the episode.
Well, that’s exactly what the seiyuu and Takeshi Takadera did today at the convention. They did a live demonstration and it was hilarious. All the Japanese seiyuu were dressed in yukata. Marina is gorgeous!
Other funny guests were Chinese cosplayers Baozi and Hana. They are two of my favourite cosplayers, and I attended their panel on posing for cosplay photography. I thought it was very interesting. It was framed as a Q&A, in which the interpreter first asked questions then allowed attendees to ask their own questions.
Baozi and Hana mostly spoke in Mandarin Chinese, so I understood everything before the interpreter translated their words into English. ^^
My haul. The Touken Ranbu keychains are mirrors.
- Touken Ranbu
- Ace Attorney
This was one of the best days of my life because the line-up was so good. One Piece, anime and cosplay play such a big role in my life. I am so happy.
I also have to thank my friends.
I couldn’t take many photos because they aren’t allowed in some panels. The cake maker, Baozi and Hana gave their consent for photos. ^^
I was feeling blue for a while but lately I’ve been feeling much better. A few things helped me. The first was Sudoku.
Honestly, I don’t think Sudoku is fun. However, I was sleeping for 12 hours and then remembered a time when I was very productive. It was when I played games such as Sudoku, chess, and mahjong. I decided to play Sudoku again and later that day I felt energetic enough to get work done! I don’t think it’s a placebo effect because Sudoku stimulates your brain, apparently. My current time is under 10 minutes, and my goal is to finish a puzzle in five minutes
Another thing that helped me was BiSH’s music. BiSH, also known as Brand-new idol SHiT, is a Japanese idol group. Sometimes the girls stick their middle finger during performances, and some of their music videos have them killing creepy men. They scream in some songs too. I think that’s the coolest thing ever. Their songs sound so good. I listen to their albums on Spotify. My favourites in their Fake Metal Jacket album:
- BiSH -星が瞬く夜に
- SMACK baby SMACK (I prefer the 2017 version in THE GUERRiLLA BiSH)
The cool part about this (in my opinion) is that these are grown in a pot. There are a lot of plants at home, including green onion, an assortment of herbs, flowers, succulents, indoor plants and underwater plants.
It’s also good to buy fruits and vegetables locally. I have a ton of apricots from the farmer’s market!
I was feeling quite pessimistic and negative, even though I am generally optimistic or neutral. That’s why I decided to blog about ten things that make me happy. Hopefully writing this post will make me feel a bit more appreciative of the little things in life, and it will be something I can read back on in the future.
1. Grass Jelly drink
My friend gave me a canned grass jelly drink the other day and I loved it. Grass jelly is my favourite bubble tea topping to begin with, but having it as its own drink is cool. It’s a black drink! It’s the perfect amount of sweetness for me (which is not very sweet) and there are small grass jelly chunks. I definitely plan on buying a pack for myself.
2. Boys Love manhua
LOL LOL. I barely read boys love series now but I follow one shonen ai series, which is Here U Are. It’s by a Chinese author and it’s an ongoing series. Everything is in colour and the art is absolutely amazing. The pacing is slow, which makes the chapters seem short. I’m okay with this though because the relationship shouldn’t be rushed. Every time there is a new update, my day is made.
3. Tales of Vesperia
This is one of the games I’m currently playing. Most of the JRPGs I’ve played were traditional turn-based so I’m surprised that I’m enjoying the gameplay. The story, characters and art are all good. I look forward to playing this all the time.
4. Making money
A feeling I hate is spending money without having earned anything. I’m happy that I have a part-time job now so I don’t feel like a lazy butt all the time.
5. Nice people on Twitter
I seriously get so much support on Twitter. Whenever I tweet that I’m in a bad mood, people write words of encouragement. Sometimes people send me private messages. Just the fact that people are trying to cheer me up is the best feeling. Plus, when I’m upset I don’t think rationally but others bring me back to normal. On top of that, I’ve never met these people in real life! It’s refreshing knowing how good the community is. My experience with Twitter has mostly been with anime fans and anime bloggers.
Even my tweets about random thoughts receive a lot of support. I don’t like messaging the same person too many times because I think I will annoy them, so Twitter is the place for me to write down all my thoughts. I don’t like keeping my thoughts bottled up.
6. NARUKO Tea Tree Refreshing Cooling Sunscreen
This is very specific. I don’t have this product yet, but I am planning on buying it. Not only is it sunscreen, it’s also an anti-acne product. I watched a video of Bii today and he gave his review on this product. All the online reviews I’ve seen are really positive too. I can’t wait to try this out.
Matcha ice cream
I can’t wait to eat this again. It’s not very sweet!
I really like lattes. They look so cute and they also taste good. I would like to go to a cafe by myself or with a friend and order a hot drink. I also love London Fogs.
There are a couple of cosplays I’m planning on doing in the near future, as well as future cosplays I would love to do. I want to buy a long pink wig but I’m also saving money at the same time. Ah…
I’m ready to go to sleep hahaha. Hopefully I’ll have a nice dream.
These ten things are pretty specific to how I’m feeling at this moment. I’m sure most of these will change on any other day. I feel better now!
I guess I don’t have much to say in this post, except for the words… thank you. Some of you guys have stuck with me through thick and thin and it means a lot to me. I love you~
I feel quite content right now. I’m happy. ^^
Also, message me on Twitter if you haven’t already~
I’ve been busy updating my MAL (My Anime List). I’ve always known about it but felt like it was too much work so I never used the site. Now I see the benefits of having an account so I encourage every anime fan to do the same! ><
I don’t feel comfortable sharing my account because I read too many embarrassing series but I can share a screenshot of my stats if I finish. So far I have over 1000 episodes and 2500 manga chapters on there but I haven’t entered most of the shows/series yet.
I’ve also been thinking of my cosplans. I still want photos for Gumi Matryoshka, Mitsuha (Kimi no Na Wa), Umaru, and Akashi (Kuroko no Basuke). There is a particular location where I want to take photos for Mitsuha so we shall see.
New characters I want to cosplay as are Kiki (Kiki’s Delivery Service) and Luka (Just Be Friends).
The songs I listen to change every week and this morning I’ve been listening to:
– Noel’s Theme ~ The Shadow Hunter – Final Fantasy XIII OST
My walls have posters, backpack has a keychain and pin, keys have a keychain, keyboard has panda cover, phone has Luffy charm, and more. Then there are jewelry and hair accessories. ^^
