I went to Anime Revolution, the biggest anime convention in Vancouver, BC on Saturday, August 4. It’s a 3-day event. These are just the events and panels I went to, and I scheduled my day around these panels beforehand.
The event I was looking forward to the most was getting an autograph from Kappei Yamaguchi, my favourite voice actor. He’s the Japanese voice actor of Usopp from One Piece, Inuyasha from InuYasha, Shinichi Kudo from Detective Conan, L from Death Note, Ranma from Ranma 1/2 and lots of other anime. If you’ve seen these anime, you’ll know that Usopp sounds very different from L.
I waited two hours in total for his autograph but it was worth it. Not everyone got it because he signed for one hour. He signed my One Piece fan, which was a gift from my friend. Kappei-san and I shook hands afterwards. My dream came true.

Kappei-san wrote ‘Usopp’ under his signature
I also went to a seiyuu (voice actor) event. Kappei-san and other seiyuu (listed below) were guests. There was also a sound director. It was a live recording for Kyoukai no Rinne. I waited around an hour and a half, but got a good seat.
- Kappei Yamaguchi
- Marina Inoue, most known for Armin from Attack on Titan andΒ Momo Yaoyorozu from My Hero Academia
- Satsuki Yukino, most known for Kagome from InuYasha
- Hitomi Nabatame, who has voiced too many characters to count!
- Takeshi Takadera, sound director for Watashi ga Motete Dousunda,Β Yowamushi Pedal,Β Yuru Campβ³Β and other anime
It was an extremely informative event! I learned that about 20 seiyuu share 3 or 4 microphones, and they shuffle around to speak. Yes, 20 seiyuu gather around all at once.
First the seiyuu do their interpretation of the character’s voice with the video playing. It’s like a draft. Then the sound director gives feedback and the seiyuu do a final version. Sound effects, music and other effects are added in later on to complete the episode.
Well, that’s exactly what the seiyuu and Takeshi Takadera did today at the convention. They did a live demonstration and it was hilarious. All the Japanese seiyuu were dressed in yukata. Marina is gorgeous!

Other funny guests were Chinese cosplayers Baozi and Hana. They are two of my favourite cosplayers, and I attended their panel on posing for cosplay photography. I thought it was very interesting. It was framed as a Q&A, in which the interpreter first asked questions then allowed attendees to ask their own questions.
Baozi and Hana mostly spoke in Mandarin Chinese, so I understood everything before the interpreter translated their words into English. ^^

Devil fruit cake I saw at the Vendor Hall (from One Piece)
My haul. The Touken Ranbu keychains are mirrors.

- Touken Ranbu
- Durarara!!
- Ace Attorney
This was one of the best days of my life because the line-up was so good. One Piece, anime and cosplay play such a big role in my life. I am so happy.
I also have to thank my friends.
I couldn’t take many photos because they aren’t allowed in some panels. The cake maker, Baozi and Hana gave their consent for photos. ^^
