Kaiji is in my top 5 anime list. The art style is unique, the music is great, and Kaiji has great style. It’s different in many ways, including the fact that there are no women in the anime (excluding the convenience store co-worker, who is a minor character).
If you see Kaiji’s signature long, pointy nose in an anime, it’s a reference to Kaiji. It is usually shown when a character wants to play a game, and the character’s appearance changes from the original art style.
1. Himouto! Umaru-chan
VS Kaiji
2. Osomatsu-san
3. Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii
4. xxxHoLiC Kei
5. Monogatari
VS Kaiji
6. Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W
VS Kaiji
There is also a Kaiji reference in the video game, Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony (the Rock-Paper-Scissors Cards)!
I never really understood these references lol.

If you see them in anime from now on, you’ll know where the reference was from, at least. There’s a lot of gambling involved in Kaiji, which is why it appears when anime characters are playing games or betting.

Oh okay! That sounds pretty funny. I should really take a look on this Kaiji character and learn about the anime.

It’s kind of dark. I love it so much!

Actually, it’s pretty intense and dark. Since it’s in my top 5 anime, of course it’s good! Hehe.

Really? I didn’t think Kaiji would be dark. I thought it was going to be fun and comedy anime lol.

While I wasn’t in love with Kaiji, I do love spotting references like these in other shows 🙂 Enjoyed the post!

I think it’s fun to spot any anime reference in any anime! Since I love Kaiji, it’s more fun when it’s a Kaiji reference. 🙂 Thanks Jon!

That makes sense to me! 🙂 I will give Kaiji credit for the fun reference material it arms other shows with. I think that’s what is making the spin-off comedy serious focusing on Tonegawa this season legs. I like it more than the original series, even when it isn’t that good.

I’m planning on watching the spin-off! I’m not done Season 2, so do I need to finish S2 in order to watch the spin-off? Or could I start it today? :3

Spin-off hard spoils season 1 but is safe for S2, but I would watch main series first any way 🙂

That makes sense because it’s Tonegawa. Thanks!
